bedtime post

It has been a while since my last post - aside from Steve Jobs' Stanford graduate address.

In brief, the reorganisation of the marketing deparment is accomplished and my new role has become clearer. I have a new boss, a young, intelligent people-oriented manager whom I guess will be up for executive promotion within the next 3 years. I think he will be fun to work with and provide welcome change to my previous boss (a rather distant and stubborn senior executive with whom I never succeeded to build any form of rapport).

After a couple of weeks in the new structure, my mailbox is less loaded, I have less meetings, can focus more on the important instead of the urgent matters. Hopefully, I can stabilize this situation for a while.

And I can spend sufficient time with Alexander to do the daily homework !

The current peace of mind did not come easily though. Managing a team in a rather paternalistic business environment remains a big challenge, and I am gradually detaching myself from the drive to do things 'my way' (which some might read as micromanagement).

Apart from that, I had a great (though short) Sunday Apero with my buddy Jason last week. It is always nice to see back friends and I realize I should try to do this more often.

To conclude a great quote taken from a recent business meeting, in which an attendee pointed out the caveats of interpreting averages in business reports through : "When your feet are in the fridge and your head in the oven, you are probably feeling warm on average" - LOL
