Wednesday we landed back from our holiday in Crete. We started with cruising four days along the Greek islands San Torini, Myconos, Kussadasi and Rhodes (in which we got our share of the metlemi winds shaking up the boat a bit). After the cruise we settled for a 6-day chill in a nice resort (one of the requirements was that it should have a respectable toboggan).
Key highlights of the trip:
1) It takes a stomach to cruise - apart from one day (the first one - imagine) with wind strenghts up to allegedly 8 beaufort, we were spared by Poseidon.
2) It takes a stomach to get back on land. Yes, Flori as well as myself were "landsick" for up to 2 days after the cruise. Our heads spinned - craving for the soothing rhytms of the sea. Funny.
3) Crete is a nice, raw country with a interesting history. It is thanks to shrewd politics back in the 1920's that they are not a second Cyprus.
4) Through reading 'Rubicon' (announced earlier), I come to realize that politics has not changed a bit. "Homo homini lupus".
5) I have been pondering too much on my career, trying to figure out whether the culture shock is not lasting a bit too long now. And then I just came across the posts on France from my friend Aidan, who points out the aspects work/life balance and cultural gaps that come with a career change.
More later.
