Entering the final full week of August. I am glad that Alexander's lip healed quickly and neatly after last week's collision with the door handle at the childcare premises. After 6 years of parenthood, you start recognizing the appearence an unknown local, fixed-line number appearing on the cell phone as a prelude to further excitement. The excitement last Friday involved paying a visit to the emergency services to get 1 stitch in my son's upperlip - without the sedation part. The surgeon's assistent (a green graduate) was quick to give up on his first attempt as the poor lad was grappling his was off the surgery table. My attempts to have at least some sedation administrated proved futile. I was explained that the stings of a needle would be as bad as the stitching anyway - although I cannot get rid of the impression that they just wanted to get on and over with it..Anyway, all's well that ends well.
The checkup on his ears went fine as well, so we have a medical confirmation that he hears well, euh perfectly, - and that any obedience problems are now formally due to other factors :-)
At work, the pre-study to implement a comprehensive data strategy is progressing. We are working with a large vendor in a series of workshops, and my opinion tends to be heard. So, I am feeling like a child in a toy shop. At the same time, I remain involved in the design of our future marketing organisation. The collaboration with the Accenture guys goes well, and I am looking forward to continue working with them in the future. Finally, I am trying to establish relations with the strategy department.
Next week is the last 'quiet' week. After that, the rush will start again : first schoolday for Alexander, start of an intensive training programme to get to know the bank, kickoff for the new marketing organisation and probably some tough conversations with some of my reports.
In conclusion, I am looking forward to a sunny weekend.
