Today I managed to have group intelligence at work in deciding upon reporting structures. Maybe because today's group was not too big (5 people), maybe because there were no rambo's or james' present. I managed to explain my needs in a calm and structured way and have the team members engaged in a discussion (and they came up with good & constructive proposals).
The result is a agreed upon reporting/followup solution that is flexible enough to accommodate for the need of each team member (as well as mine). It felt as a relief -I can induce good group dynamics with the team.
The second part of the day, I met with a small consultancy company (2 data mining experts) that had an interesting business/partnership model. At another bank, they apparenlty industrialized a data mining chain covering 70 models and reduced the FTEs required to operate it to _1_. Obviously, there is a reason why my team constitutes of 5-6 FTE (on paper at least). But if my boss learns of this, nasty questions will follow and my *ss is gonna hurt.
I'll probably need to audit my dept (on methods, organisation & systems) and plot out some evolution scenarios. Will need to have that reporting in place soon...
